Kids' Bedroom: Reworked!

I've gotten around to coloring one of the sketches I grayscaled for my thesis exhibition!  You'll recognize it from a previous post awhile ago.

Living Room: Reworked

Just finished up a grayscale of a living room sketch I did during thesis.  Please let me know what you think- your feedback is greatly appreciated!

THESIS: EXHIBITION!

And now my senior exhibition is up!  Stephanie and I worked on painting the wall the same color as the kids' bedroom as well as painting the moon and the stars on top of that color.  I also brought in my lamp and my rug.  To complete the feel of the room a teacher let me borrow some magic boxes.  The overall effect is pretty great!

THESIS: Almost Over!

With school done and over with [still so hard to believe] I'm now gearing up to take on putting up my thesis exhibition!!!  Recently I grayscaled one of the sketches I did early on in the year of the kids' bedroom.  I think this sets the mood I was going for when I drew it.

I never thought I'd like coloring in Photoshop, but I really liked working on this.  I think I'd like to continue this process- importing my traditional drawings into PS and coloring them this way.  To be really ambitious... I'd like to do one of these a day, but I'm not sure if I'll get to that point just yet.  Let me know what you think!

I just scanned more drawings that I found buried in my room.  Here they are!

  

I figured I would do a quick environment sketch just to make sure I didn't forget how to draw over winter break.  The drawings below are sketches of Danny's different pajama options and another view of the kids' room.

Finished the above gesture drawing in between exercises I worked on with my Intro to 2D class that I TA for.

Tried to do a more warped fisheye perspective while lying down on the floor of my bedroom.  It was super fun drawing the window!

Research sketches created during my semester abroad in Italy- I was inspired by Venice, the buildings rising out of the waters, and Piazza San Marco.

THESIS: Potential Space Planning!

Yesterday I went out and looked at Steph and my thesis space and sketched some roughs of what Steph and my thesis exhibition space could look like.  Steph came up with the AWESOME idea of painting the creepalicious moon and stars on the wall with our stuff/ painting the wall the same indigo color as the kids' bedroom.  (Why yes, I do have a great thesis partner :D)  Here's some sketches of what our exhibition space could look like:

This was done awhile ago, but I just haven't put them up.  The color was done by my wonderful partner, Steph- check out her blog!, and the drawings were created by me.

Finally have a test up!  It's rough, but... it's still something moving on the screen which motivates me to keep on chugging.

Drew a new living room- tried to combine the first two together.  Also added a rug- everyone loves rugs. At least my roommates and I do.

I feel like recently my facial expressions and body language while working on thesis has been starting to mimick the little girl's movements more and more... 

THESIS TIME: Living Rooms and Hallways!

Two very similar living rooms, but I wanted to move some furniture around/ move some furniture out and about.  Which do you like better?

Aaaand some views of the hallway; I'm still not quite happy with it, so I'll be doing more sketches of this as well.

THESIS TIME: Kitchens and the Kids' room!

I like to draw the insides of buildings/ rooms so I had a lot of fun designing and drawing the kitchen and the kids' room.  I tried to give the rooms more of an "off-kilter" look to offset how round our characters are especially b/c my previous kitchen sketch was a bit too clean.  Really pulled from Coraline.  This isn't too relevant, although its relevant to our thesis idea: I just love the scene where Coraline first meets the other mother in the kitchen and the other mother turns around and BAM-- scary button eyes.  Anyway, here are the new kitchen sketches~~~

And Danny and Maddy's room!  They share a teeny tiny room with a creepy stick-on moon on their wall; such strange kids.

IT'S THESIS TIME

So for our thesis my friend Stephanie and I are working together.  I just finished working on the character model sheet of the boy character we came up with- Danny.  Aaaand a sneak peek at our basic thesis idea: It's about two children who try to make their controlling and emotionally abusive mother proud via their warped perception of her demands.

And another close up of him.  Yay rocket ships on shirts and poofy tufts of hair!

Also did a sketch of the kitchen we'll be using:
